'Ocean Love'
Along our rugged west coastlines of Ireland, the Atlantic carries stories older than memory. Beneath its shifting blues and greens, lobster hide in rock crevices, mackerel flash through shoals like living silver, and starfish cling to stone in quiet constellations. These creatures shaped generations of coastal life, from family fishing trips to a deep respect for the sea and its rhythms.
In this beautiful artwork, the magical conger eel curls into a perfect circle, echoing the ancient symbol of the ouroboros, a creature consuming its own tail representing eternity, renewal, and the endless cycle of life. Though the ouroboros is seen in cultures worldwide, the Celtic world also embraced cyclical symbols: spirals, triskele, and endless knots that mirror the turning tides and the ever-returning seasons.
Behind the sea life, the forms of sacred geometry rise like hidden currents, gentle reminders that nature follows patterns both seen and unseen. In these circles and spirals lies the same quiet truth: everything is connected. What we take from the ocean must be balanced by what we give back.
This piece celebrates the wisdom of the Atlantic, its abundance, its fragility, and the ancient harmony between people and the sea. Inspired by our long Summer days spent fishing on the west coast, it honours a way of living that is sustainable, respectful, and deeply rooted in place.
A drawing in tribute to the ocean’s cycles, the creatures that sustain us, and the sacred balance of nature.
