Large Spalted Beech Chopping Board with Natural Handle

Large Spalted Beech Chopping Board with Natural Handle

A substantial, beautifully characterful chopping board handcrafted from a single piece of naturally spalted beech, with a simple, sturdy handle and a generous surface made for proper kitchen use.

This is one of those pieces where the wood really does the talking. The striking dark lines, warm honey tones and intricate natural markings are all part of the spalted timber, making this board completely unique. No two pieces of spalted beech are ever the same, and every mark and variation tells part of the story of the tree.

We make our boards from wind fallen trees here in Donegal. We take the whole tree to our sawmill, where we sawmill and prepare the timber ourselves. From there, each piece is carefully planed to thickness before being shaped, sanded and finished entirely by hand.

The generous size of this board makes it particularly useful for everyday cooking, with plenty of space for chopping vegetables, preparing meat, slicing bread or creating a beautiful serving board for cheese, breads and sharing plates. The natural character of the timber makes it just as beautiful left on display in the kitchen.

The handle is shaped directly from the same piece of wood, keeping the board simple and honest in its design.

Each board is finished with organic food grade oil and sealed with beeswax from our own bees, giving the wood a beautiful natural finish while helping to protect it through everyday use.

This is not a mass produced kitchen accessory. It is a one of a kind piece of Donegal timber, made slowly and by hand from a tree that would otherwise have been lost.

A big, beautiful, hardworking piece of wood for a kitchen that loves natural materials, rustic character and things made to last.
